The World Of Online Business

Whenever I’m asked what I do, and I begin to speak about how I work online, many peoples’ eyes glaze over and they admit they have no understanding of how online business works. And in most cases, they don’t want to know as it all sounds too complicated and way too risky!

Interesting …

Imagine you are looking at a horizon.

Above the horizon is everything you inherently know about life and business in the ‘real world’. It’s a world where you meet people, where you go shopping in stores and where you work with others in offices, on construction sites or in a retail environment.

When you have a problem, you speak to someone on the telephone and with a bit of luck, they sort everything out for you. Education is conducted in a classroom and you drive from the supermarket, to the post office to the mall, adding hours to your week but knowing it is a necessary part of managing your busy lifestyle.

Below the horizon is another world. It’s the world where you meet people on social media, where you shop in virtual stores and where many people work in a remote office via the internet.

It’s a world where problems are sorted out through email, information is available at your fingertips and where you can learn anything from the comfort of your home. You no longer have to drive to the supermarket or the mall as everything you need, or want, can be delivered to your home.

The strange thing is that most of us use the internet everyday. We look up facts, we browse social media sites to keep up with our friends, or our enemies, we follow the news on our tablet or smartphone while we travel to work and we entertain ourselves with videos when we are bored.

There seems to be this air of ‘mystery’ around working online and yet at the same time, many people love the idea of being able to work their own hours from home. If only … is the phrase I often hear. The idea of having the freedom to work from home, to set your own hours and to live the high life, is very appealing.

But lets look at the reality of online business.

The clue is in the word business.

There is no magic wand that will instantly make you a multimillionaire, no ‘get rich quick’ schemes and no short cuts.

Working online means you still have to work. And just like any other business, there is a build phase which requires hard work, dedication and a willingness to learn.

However, the difference is that in the online business world you can automate your processes so that you can sell to people all over the world, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can literally be ‘making money while you sleep’.

Never before, have so many people had access to your product or service at the click of a mouse or the swipe of a finger.

And never before, have you had access to a market that spans the globe.

The world below the horizon is not a dark underworld full of secrets that only a few people who are brave enough to put everything ‘on the line’ can access. It is available to everyone who is willing to put in the time and effort to create a business that can sustain them, no matter what their age, no matter what they look like and no matter where they live.

When you first started in your current job or business, there was a lot to learn. Somewhere along the way, somebody trained you until you became proficient at the tasks you now do without a second thought. No matter your education level, we all have to learn how things are done.

Online business is the same.

There are certain ways of doing things that are unique to an internet business but there is also a lot you already know that will translate perfectly across the two worlds. They are in fact a mirror for each other.

There are a myriad of opportunities waiting for those who are bold enough to take the leap into the unknown, to learn some new skills and to take advantage of the chance to build a business in a world that is expanding and growing every day.
